80% of the trans and gender diverse people murdered in the last year were affected by racism, where race was known. This means 80% of trans and gender diverse people murdered were Black or People of Colour.
In Europe, this is also clearly tied to immigration. 45% of trans and gender diverse murder victims in Europe were migrants or refugees, where data was available.
We need concrete action, starting with:
Better protection for trans asylum seekers, including conditions where they are safe to reveal gender identity during the asylum process and housed in safe conditions.
Legal gender recognition for migrants and asylum seekers.
Long-term funding for Black & PoC and trans led organisations.
Race is a trans issue. Immigration is a trans issue. Asylum is a trans issue. Trans movements need to centre the needs and safety of trans people in these communities.
